March update

I'd like to say I'm getting better at posting these as I'm in progress of work but that is not the case so far, I'd like my ADHD to take full responsibility for that (ok it's me just a little).

On my last post I shared the start of the beautiful Lola I have now completed her and she is in her new home. I had to darken a few areas for my clients as the reference photo was showing areas a lot lighter than in reality but I got there in the end.

I then tackled my first curly haired pup but as of yet I can't share this one with you as it's a Birthday gift, but I'm super happy with how she turned out. The next two portraits were free yes that's right free of charge.

This little Chihuahua is for my Sons girlfriend. Her beloved 'Cookie' sadly passed, I added a certain amount of artistic flourish to the piece even cracking the watercolours out, it's only a small portrait (A4 with the mount) but that seems befitting to me. There is more blue in the portraits background but for some reason my phone camera seems to hate me and is messing with the exposure of my work.

The next free portrait was a donation from me to a charity in the USA that rescues Australian cattle dogs, this was the best reference photo I have worked with and I'm going to miss that adorable smiley face on my drawing board, again my camera has decided to over expose the photo, hopefully adjusting the settings has now sorted this issue.

The next pet to come galloping to my drawing board is a little bit of a tricky customer, unfortunately the mustang has long since crossed over to the rainbow bridge and the only photos are old polaroid ones. I have learnt so much about mustangs, horses and halters to help me and I really did have to go back to the drawing board after the first sketch was not right. I cracked out the tracing paper to draw my second attempt on as I can erase as many times as I need without ripping it, it's not pretty but it saves ruining the tooth of my paper.

Told you it wasn't pretty, once I had the details and the go ahead from the customer I used trace down to transfer the image and then sketched the parts on the paper that didn't fit on the tracing paper, along with a slight adjustment to the ears.

That finally brings me to the second piece on my drawing board and my first portrait with two pets, I'm enjoying the different colours on this one and excited about the composition.

Have a tail wagging week!
